About Us
A Hand Up Community Action Agency is a 501c3 that was created to assist families and individuals that suffered from violence and/or trauma. This agency was the brainchild of Ms. Brown. Ms Brown worked as a social worker for the State of Michigan and volunteered at various community agencies for many years and saw that the needs of the people were not being met. Ms Brown saw that many families and individuals had been the direct or indirect victim of violence and trauma either domestic violence, sexual assault, child abuse, death, natural disasters and were not receiving the necessary services to help them cope and recover from the event(s).
So A Hand Up was developed to provide the services to fill the void and help people become stable. The services offered to the community are counseling (individual and group), educational support, empowerment program, advocacy, prevention and employment assistance, etc.
A Hand Up is staffed by experienced therapists, social workers, case managers, and people that care about the community. The staff understands the needs of the clients and are dedicated to helping individuals make the necessay changes to succeed.
